The Denver Wilderness Kids, formed April 10, 1976 as a part of the Colorado Mountain Club, hiked with their parents to the summit of Mt. Elbert, 14,433', the highest peak in Colorado, August 1, 1976. The group was part of the Great Colorado Centennial Fourteener Climb that had climbing parties ascend all of the state's 52 peaks over 14,000'.
