The Amtrak Floridian passenger train that operated between Chicago, Illinois and Miami, Florida ceased operation in 1979. It was the last passenger train that serviced Louisville. Kentucky as well. These photographs document the final days for the workers in the Chicago Yards, the Amtrak employees aboard the train, an engineer,, W.C. Roddy, that drove the train between Louisville and Bowling Green, KY and the passengers who enjoyed riding the rails.

Pictured: After a night journey through Alabama and southern Georgia, the Floridian makes a morning stop in Ocala, Florida where it's welcomed by palm trees and a rambling wooden station. The train will travel another five hours before arriving in Miami, the southern end of the route.
