LAKE POWELL CATHEDRAL

Rich Ingebretsen <cq> walks through the Cathedral in the Desert formation in Clear Creek Canyon, a side canyon in Lake Powell. This canyon is thought by many to be one of the most spectacular and much of it has not been visible for many years since the Glen Canyon Dam backed up the Colorado River in 1963, flooding the canyons with water. Now that lake levels are about one-half of capacity, the beauty of the walls and the vast depostis of silt are visible. Ingebretsen is a member of the Glen Canyon Institute whose mission is to have the dam decommissioned and the lake drained, returning the canyon to it's original state. Friday, March 15, 2003.
