KEEP ON TRUCKIN'.jpg
March, 1981. Malinda Lamb at 16 was attempting to follow her boyfriend between two moving freight cars in the railyards in Louisville, Kentucky. She fell and the wheels of the car crushed her legs. She survived and so began a long rehabilitation to regain her mobility. I, along with fellow journalist, Ellie Brecher, documented her recovery from the first days in the hospital in 1981 through her high school graduation. A selection of these photographs were awarded the 1981 Robert F. Kennedy Award in Photojournalism for coverage of the disadvantaged.
