Thirty-three drivers begin the annual Indianapolis 500 race each year. One driver wins, the other thirty-two don't. Larry Dickson was one of those in the 1978 running of the race. He qualified for the race and started in 9th position but had engine problems and lost oil pressure on the 104th lap of the 200 lap race. He finished in 22nd place. The winner of the race was Al Unser Sr. who won for the 3rd time by 9 seconds over Tom Sneva.
