STONE LAKES EGRET_1990.JPG
The Nature Conservancy and Pacific Trust Realty are close to finalizing an agreement of terms to purchase Staten Island in the Mokelumne River drainage for about $35 million. Development on the island would be prohibited and would allow farming and wetland preservation to coexist. Corn fields are flooded and the stalks provide a source of nutrition for many species of birds as well as perching places for other species. Wednesday, December 20, 2000. Sacramento Bee/Jay Mather
