The Amtrak Floridian passenger train that operated between Chicago, Illinois and Miami, Florida ceased operation in 1979. It was the last passenger train that serviced Louisville. Kentucky as well. These photographs document the final days for the workers in the Chicago Yards, the Amtrak employees aboard the train, an engineer,, W.C. Roddy, that drove the train between Louisville and Bowling Green, KY and the passengers who enjoyed riding the rails.

Pictured: W.C. Rodday, a railroad engineer for 37 years, his traveling bag with him, begins his day in Louisville, KY where he takes over the duties of driving the train to Bowling Green, KY and on to Nashville, TN. He carries a notebook of track conditions and current speed limits. During the trip he is constantly talking on the phone with the conductor and fireman on board.
