FL BOWLING GREEN ARRIVAL.JPG
The Amtrak Floridian passenger train that operated between Chicago, Illinois and Miami, Florida ceased operation in 1979. It was the last passenger train that serviced Louisville. Kentucky as well. These photographs document the final days for the workers in the Chicago Yards, the Amtrak employees aboard the train, an engineer,, W.C. Roddy, that drove the train between Louisville and Bowling Green, KY and the passengers who enjoyed riding the rails.
Pictured: Two hours behind schedule, the Floridian arrives in Bowling Green, KY. Poor track conditions in Indiana and Kentucky cause delays, as do stops to let freight trains pass even though passenger trains are due the right-of-way.
