A lone visitor to the lowest elevation spot in the U.S. at Badwater in Death Valley National Monument. Even in this hostile environment a specie of aquatic snail, the Badwater snail lives, withstanding sub-freezing to 150 degree plus temperatures in a water confine 4 times saltier than sea water, and the snalis have lived here for 10,000 years. The Badwater pool is 30 feet in diameter. The area is 282 feet below sea level.
