DEATH VALLEY_JIMSOMWEED.JPG
Western Jimsomweed (Datura wrightii). Found most gravely flat areas of the Mojave desert. This sample was seen in Death Valley National Park.
Jimson weed (Datura stramonium), which is also known as devil’s trumpet, thorn apple, Indian apple, black datura, jimsonweed, tolguacha, and Jamestown weed, is poisonous to pets (especially to large animals like horses, cattle). All parts of this plant are poisonous, as they contain the toxin tropane alkaloids (which is similar to the drug atropine).
